There exists a darkness to the world that puts humanity in great danger. Twisted creatures known as Shades, born of the dark magic and the selfish emotions of humanity hunt their victims from the shadows, immune to the usual weapons of humans and seemingly invincible. Humanity knows of this danger, but they are powerless to do battle against creatures they can barely percieve, let alone harm.

But there is hope -- and this hope exists in the form of magical girls.

Borne of light and love, these magical girls exist to combat the Shades and are the only weapons that humanity has against these dark creatures. But being a magical girl isn't all fun and games -- without proper training, it can be dangerous or even fatal.

And so, Etoile Academy exists, to train up prospective magical girls and ensure that they are strong enough to combat the shades. As soon as a girl awakens as a magical girl, she is visited by the headmistress and offered a place at Etoile Academy. And almost all of them accept.

( girls are encouraged to customize it as they wish)

What is a magical girl and why are they at Etoile?

A magical girl is, in short, a girl who has the ability to transform into a superpowered version of herself, with the use of a transformation item and a transformation phrase. Their phrase and item can be absolutely anything... within reason of course. Most magical girls, especially those in teams, follow some kind of specific thematic or motif.

Magical girls are awakened when they find themselves or their loved ones in great danger, usually under attack from a Shade. If they are determined enough to protect themselves -- or the person they love -- they will find themselves suddenly holding their transformation item, with the required phrase and action needed to transform already springing to mind.

Following their first battle -- usually as immediately as the day after -- the girl in question will be visited by the headmistress and offered a place at Etoile. Should she accept, she will be given a train ticket, with a departure date of the week following the meeting. They are instucted to take the ticket to the nearest train station and take the first train that draws onto the platform.

Without fail, all the girls will fall asleep on the trip and will wake up just in time to arrive at Etoile, with no memory of the trip itself. Once they arrive, they will be shown to their dorms and given a week to settle in before lessons begin.

What is a Shade?

Shades are creatures borne of the darkm selfish emotions of humanity. Like shadows, they have no real form of their own, but take shape from the thoughts and nightmares of humans around them. Shades feed themselves by sapping the emotions from the humans around them and, if they are allowed to feed for long enough, eventually begin to steal memories and even life force.

Only magic can harm Shades and therefore they cannot be attacked by humans. Only the magic of a magical girl can prove to be a serious threat to a Shade.

When a Shade is threatened by a magical girl, it reacts by instinctively drawing itself and its attacker into a labyrinth pocket dimension known as a Distortion. Ordinary people cannot perceive Distortions and will simply feel uneasy or even full of despair when in its presence. For magical girls, a Distortion appears as a distorted version of the place the battle began, and becomes increasingly distorted the further in the magical girl goes. At the heart, where the Shade lies in wait, it is an insane, distorted jumble of images taken from the minds of the magical girl and the people in the vicinity of the Distortion.

When a Shade is defeated, it may drop a Shadow Jewel, a tiny jet-black stone that glitters in the light. They are a valuable source of magic for those who know how to use them and can be used as currency with those who are willing to trade.

At Etoile, magical girls who collect thirteen Shadow Jewels may be granted a wish from the headmistress... or so the rumours go. At the very least, you can trade in Shadow Jewels at the school for various rewards -- from a game standpoint, this translates to Shadow Jewels = regains!

What does the public know?

The existence of magical girls and Shades is public knowledge, as is the existence of Etoile Academy. Magical girls are haled as heroes and idols and girls everywhere dream about becoming one. Schools educate their students on the dangers of magical girldom and parents are advised to discuss the possibility with their daughters. A magical girl's identity is not public and is always a closely guarded secret -- though magical girls will usually recieve some kind of allowance from the government in their area, as a sort of thank you or payment for what they do.

Rules

☆ Female characters only.
This is Magical Girl Academy, after all. As long as a character identifies as female, they are eligible to become a magical girl! But if you're really dying to app as a male character, we accept rule 63 AUs!

☆ We accept OCs, Fandom OCs and Canon Characters!
Please note, however, that any and all characters must be AU'd into the Magical Girl Academy setting when you apply. In addition, all fandom OCs must be standalone fandomn OCs -- for example, you can apply as your Sailor Moon OC as long as she isn't Usagi's little sister from the future who is also Minako's arch rival and -- yeah, you get the idea.

☆ No god-modding, powergaming or meta-gaming.
These are bad Things and you will very likely Really Annoy the other players if you try and pull them.
God-modding; Also known as 'god-mode' - ascribing actions, thoughts or speech to another person's character without prior permission from the player. Autohitting in fights and such also falls under this (see powergaming).
Meta-gaming: To give or use information gained OOCly that characters did not learn ICly. This is especially bad if the information is something the character couldn't possibly know or that they use to their advantage. Please remember that OOC information is not always immediately IC information.
Power gaming: Related to god-modding. Either playing an extremely overpowered character, especially in a way that hinders other players. Pulling new powers out of nowhere, always winning fights and such.

☆ We're PG-16!
... meaning that this RP will deal with potentially mature themes and include violence and blood. However, explicit sexual posts are not allowed on this comm -- please fade to black if it looks like a thread is going in that kind of direction or take it off comm. Do not play out any smut on any of the Magical Girl Academy comms.

☆ Staying active is vital!
A game relies on everyone to stay active even when there isn't any active plot happening. Even goofy slice of life shenanigans can be beneficial in the long run! The current minimum for activity is two of any of the following once a month; a network post with responses, a comment thread with fifteen comments (from you), a log post with five+ comments from you.

☆ Characters are currently limited to three per person.
This means that if you would like to apply as another character once you have three, you must drop one of your others. Exceptions may be made for plot-important side-characters, or for plays who have proved that they could juggle more than three characters.

☆ Not a rule, but some advice -- if you're having trouble coming up with the magical warrior parts of your profile, you can use this handy dandy character generator! Just use the parts you need.
